Isle of Skye holidays at Taigh na Traon

Details about the Cottage

taigh na Traon is in an ideal location for self catering holidays. Previously a well-loved family home, it has now been converted into a self-catering cottage and is well equipped to accommodate up to 6 people and it provides an excellent base from which to explore the magical Isle of Skye.

Ground Floor

Lounge
The cottage has a cosy well-furnished lounge with a comfortable three-seater sofa and matching armchairs.

There is a multi-fuel stove, for which coal, kindling and firelighters are provided, and there is a colour TV with integral DVD/video (with scart socket) and music centre with CD, radio and cassette player.

A selection of books and magazines is provided. A guest book shows other guests’ comments and suggestions of day trips and restaurants that you may find interesting. There is a folder with our suggestions of what to do and also lots of leaflets, maps and other information to help you make the best of your Isle of Skye holiday.

Sun Room
This is a lovely room with picture windows from which to enjoy the warm golden glow of the setting sun on Linicro and the Trotternish hills behind.

This room also has a comfortable sofa, armchairs and coffee table along with bookshelves that contain books, magazines, board games, puzzles and also some maps and wildlife books which can all enhance your Isle of Skye holiday.

Front Room
As well as being the large front porch, this room holds an extensive collection of tourist information to help you decide where to go, what to see and also where to eat out during your Isle of Skye holiday.

You can also find information on things to do and places to eat by viewing the relevant pages on our web site.

Kitchen
If you do decide to eat in, you will find the kitchen is very well equipped. It has recently been completely refurbished in a more modern style but still retains a warm welcoming feel.

There is a pine dining table and chairs to seat six, and all crockery, cutlery, glassware, utensils, pots and pans, cafetiere etc are provided. There is a gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven, large fridge and dishwasher. (There is a freezer in the utility room).

The kitchen looks out over the back garden and from the kitchen windows you can see Skye's historic Monkstadt House, which has now been rebuilt.

Bathroom
Also downstairs is the bathroom. This has a P-shaped bath with electric shower, toilet, wash hand basin and shaver point. Towels and bath mats are provided.

Back Porch
This gives access to the back garden and has hanging pegs for coats.

Utility Room
Here there is a freezer, an automatic washing machine and tumble drier, and plenty of room for walking boots, waterproofs etc. This is a warm room because of the central heating boiler and there is an overhead drying rack, useful for wet walking gear. Garden chairs are also stored in here for guests to use.

Downstairs Twin Bedroom
This pleasant bedroom has twin beds with matching duvet covers and pillowcases and there is a pine wardrobe with full length hanging space, pine bedside tables with reading lamps and a pine chest of drawers and mirror.

Pretty pictures and a decorative stencilled frieze complete the cottage-style furnishings.

First Floor

Upstairs Double Bedroom
Reached by the winding staircase lit by a sloping overhead velux window, which gives views over the back garden and across to Monkstadt House, this delightful bedroom with its sloping ceiling and dormer window overlooks the front garden and hills.

It has a pretty patterned wallpaper and is furnished with a pine double bed, pine chest of drawers, pine bedside tables with reading lamps and a small wardrobe.

Upstairs Twin Bedroom
Again with a sloping ceiling, this charming bedroom has exposed beams, an original exposed stone wall, and pine panelling around the window giving it much character.

It is furnished with pine twin beds each with matching duvet covers and pillowcases in warm colours, a pine chest of drawers with mirror, bedside table, and each bed has its own bedside light. There is a small wardrobe and bookshelves. This room also has views over the front garden and hills.
