Weather for the Isle of Skye
Click here for the latest weather report. We get tourists almost all year round, as some hardy folk brave the variable weather out of season to experience “walking wild” in Skye. You know when spring arrives on the beautiful Isle of Skye-there are new lambs appearing every day and the first cuckoo is heard. Primroses burst out everywhere and when the sun shines one wouldn’t wish to be anywhere else. In summer the first corncrakes are heard after their long journey from the south to breed here. It’s fair to say that Skye does get has its fair share of rain but we also have days of absolutely gorgeous sunny clear weather – so don’t forget to bring the sun cream as it is very easy to get burnt up here, even when it is not particularly hot. Because of the combination of rain, sun and the long days that we get here in the summer, you may well find that everything is blooming and there are orchids and other wild flowers to be seen amongst the very lush grass of the rough croft land. Plenty of wildlife is there to be spotted by those with keen eyes or binoculars. In the summer it is possible to read by natural light up to about 11pm if the sky is clear. The sunsets are fantastic and the colours of the evening sky reflecting over the sea are just amazing. Skye is a good place to see the “green flash”, a rare phenomenon where a flash of green or even azure is seen as the last bit of the setting sun disappears over the horizon.
